Paloma Zapata leads Sustainable Travel International's global efforts to maximize tourism’s contribution to environmental conservation and community well-being. With over 17 years of experience in sustainable tourism, she has implemented impactful initiatives in 30 nations across the globe. She manages the organization’s efforts to engage the tourism industry in climate action through measurement tools, decarbonization strategies, and climate finance. She works with destination leaders and communities to define a Carbon Neutral Destination model. Before joining Sustainable Travel International, Paloma was a Senior Tourism & Leisure Consultant, leading numerous transformative development projects around the world. Earlier in her career, she was part of IBM’s microelectronics division and registered three patents. Paloma has a postgraduate degree in Tourism Management, an MBA from ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Spain, and a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida. She is a popular moderator, speaker, and panelist for this topic on the world stage, more recently for Reuters, The Economist, London Climate Technology Show, World Travel Market, BTO (Be Travel Onlife), and Global Travel Collection.
